Components of a Nature
Habitat

Certification Home
Not everyone will be blessed with all sixteen Habitat Components on their property. This does not mean that introducing as many as possible will not
enhance wildlife. The key is to understant each of the components, what they are, how they assist in nature and what wildlife will be assisted by their availability.
Living
Grasses
& Legumes - Are used by birds and animals as
cover and food. Birds will also use the grasses to make
nests. Seeded grasslands are relatively easy to establish
compared with other habitat types, such as forests or wetlands, and
prairie wildlife species begin using them rapidly. Thus, seeded
grasslands can provide valuable wildlife habitat on public and
private lands. Several different kinds of seeded grasslands can be
established .
